Australia vs Peru Predictions

Not many expected Australia to be in with a chance of qualification from this World Cup group, but their reward for a couple of surprisingly impressive performances is that they come into the final game with a half decent chance of progressing to the knockout rounds.

They opened their tournament in the most difficult way as they faced a star studded France side, but they sat deep and held their own against some of the most valuable attackers in world football. Eventually they went behind to the first ever VAR assisted goal at a World Cup, but quickly hit back with a penalty of their own. An unfortunate 80th minute own goal from Behich saw them drop the point, but it was an optimistic sign.

Australia followed that up with another good performance against the second favourites for the group, drawing 1-1 with Denmark despite conceding an early goal. Yet again it was Mile Jedinak from the penalty spot to level the scores, leaving them needing a win against Peru to stand a chance of progressing.

The 2018 World Cup so far has been a festival of penalties. Thanks to VAR, a huge 14 penalties have been awarded already, and with Australia winning two and Peru giving one away, we can easily see another coming on Tuesday. Mile Jedinak has already converted two of these, so backing him as our anytime goalscorer predictions looks a great choice.

Peru already have their bags packed and are ready for home. They have lost both of their games so far 1-0, although these results have belied their performances to be honest. They could have had a hat full against Denmark in their opener, and considering Australia have conceded in 14 of their last 15 World Cup games, we can see them getting on the score-sheet.

On the balance of things we can see Australia getting the win here. Peru will want to give their fans something to cheer, but Australia’s need for the three points is far greater. We’re backing an Australia win here, but also adding in Australia Win and Both Teams to Score alongside a 2-1 correct score predictions.

Australia Predicted Lineup: Ryan, Risdon, Sainsbury, Milligan, Behich, Mooy, Jedinak, Leckie, Kruse, Rogic, Nabbout

Peru Predicted Lineup: Gallese, Advincula, Ramos, Rodriguez, Trauco, Aquino, Yotun, Carrillo, Cueva, Farfan, Guerrero
