Ayr vs Dundee Predictions

Dundee travels to Ayrshire on Friday where they’ll be hosted by 2^nd-placed Ayr United at Somerset Park. Can the visitors cramp the hosts’ style?

Ayr United has been playing catch-up with l Dundee United and is now a single point behind the league leaders, but the Honest Men’s last couple of performances have denied them the chance of taking the top spot, as they lost 2-0 to Inverness CT and 3-2 to Dunfermline Athletic last week.

Newly appointed manager Mark Kerr will be eager to build on Ayr’s home form, which has been fantastic in recent weeks except for that loss to Inverness. The Honest Men are undefeated in 5 of their last 6 home ties, drawing once in the League Cup with Stranraer as well as amassing 4 wins. Moreover, Ayr United score an average of 1.75 goals at home but do concede a goal a game.

Dundee is struggling in their quest to return to the Premiership following their relegation from the top-flight last season. The Dee is currently in 5^th place and it’s down to their irregular form in the league.

James McPake’s side has found it hard to find the back of the net, a trend that they have dragged from last season, scoring a measly average of 1.22 goals. Moreover, the club is doing worse at the back, conceding an average of 1.56 and 2.50 in their away fixtures. Dundee’s last 6 away fixtures have seen no wins and they’ve conceded 10 times in their last 4 games.

Whilst Ayr United haven’t been as prolific as last year with Lawrence Shankland, the Ayrshire side has done well enough to continually push for promotion. A win for the hosts seems like the obvious choice, as they have also kept a clean sheet in 2 of their last 3 games at Somerset Park.
