AZ Reserves vs Cambuur Leeuwarden Predictions

Victories for RKC and FC Eindhoven on Friday night mean that Cambuur find themselves outside of the Play-off places going into their encounter with Jong AZ on Monday night, but Rene Hake’s side won’t be too concerned and will fancy their chances of immediately regaining their spot in the top nine based on current form. Hake’s men are unbeaten in four going into this one following some respectable results against strong opposition, and they shouldn’t have too much to fear in Alkmaar against Eerste Divisie’s basement dwellers.

It was a mixed 2018 for Cambuur to say the least but after signing off the year on a positive note with a 1-2 success at MVV, they’ve started 2019 really positively with draws against 4th placed Sparta Rotterdam (3-3), 3rd placed Go Ahead Eagles (1-1) either side of a 0-1 success at Helmond Sport.

Cambuur’s improved form hasn’t done much to bolster their league position of yet with teams around them also performing extremely well of late, and the Leeuwarden outfit have to notch three points on match day 23 to get back into the Play-off’s after RKC and FC Eindhoven pulled off fantastic triumphs against Den Bosch and Go Ahead respectively on Friday.

Cambuur’s away form overall this term has been fair at best with four wins, three draws and four defeats from 10 outings, but they have in fact won three and drawn one of their last four on the road – which makes prices of around 11/10 for a Cambuur win this Monday look very generous indeed.

And that notion is strengthened by the fact Cambuur have won all three previous meetings against Jong, including a 3-2 victory at Cambuurstadion earlier this season and a 0-1 win here at AFAS Stadion last term.

Hosts Jong AZ did land an elusive victory three starts ago with a 1-3 win at fellow strugglers Jong Utrecht, but that is their only success in their last 18 league fixtures overall.

It’s little surprise that Michel Vonk’s charges are propping up the standings after losing 13 of their 22 games and wining just twice all season, and the last time they tasted success on home turf was way back in September on match day 5 as they shocked Go Ahead 3-2.

With leading goalscorer Ferdy Druijf having left Alkmaar in January to join NEC, there’s little chance of Jong bettering their league position and overall form for the remainder of the campaign, as they had difficulty securing points when Druijf was wading in with goals week after week.

Odds of around 7/4 appear to offer terrible value here considering how poor the hosts have been in 2018/19 and the fact that Cambuur have tallied some of the best away form in the second tier over the past few weeks.

So we’re confidently recommending an away victory this Monday night which will see Cambuur reclaim a Play-off place. The visitors will be highly motivated with that at stake and we can see them wrapping this one up comfortably via a 1-3 scoreline.
