AZ Reserves vs PSV Reserves Predictions

After back to back victories against the bottom two in Eerste Divisie, 5th placed Jong PSV were stopped in their tracks by in form Cambuur on match day 29. Dennis Haar’s men were under par as they went down 3-1 in Leeuwarden, however this week’s clash with 18th placed Jong AZ offers them a decent opportunity to immediately return to winning ways.

It’s been a solid season for Jong PSV, who look set to at least replicate the 5th placed finish that they achieved last term, and their status as the best reserve side in Eerste Divisie is now all but confirmed as they are eight points ahead of defending champions Jong Ajax with eight matches remaining.

PSV’s success has all been down to a rampant attack which has blasted in 64 goals thus far and three of those came in November’s cosy 3-1 triumph against Jong AZ at De Herdgang.

Dennis Haar’s charges can at times be careless and their style of play does leave them open, as typified by that loss at Cambuur last week, but more often than not they simply bat teams out of the contest with their power up front.

Opponents Jong AZ have shipped at a rate of almost two goals per game this term, however their defensive displays have been a lot more solid of late.

Michel Vonk’s men have conceded just four goals in their last five, which has allowed them to tough out respectable draws against the likes of Den Bosch and Jong Ajax, although they were pretty dismal as a collective when losing 1-0 at 16th placed Telstar last week.

Jong have been marginally better at home than on the road this season, however they have still lost seven of their 14 fixtures at AFAS Stadion, which makes Jong PSV’s odds here seem fairly generous at around 11/10.

Whilst last week’s poor result tempers enthusiasm for the visitors a little here, they had won their previous three games on the road and have generally succeeded this term in bouncing back from any lacklustre efforts which they have turned in.

So we’re recommending a two point stake on Jong PSV to bank their 15th victory of the campaign in Alkmaar, and we’re also predicting a 3-1 scoreline again between these sides with another open affair anticipated.
