Azerbaijan vs Germany Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Azerbaijan are enjoying a very promising start to their World Cup qualifying campaign. They have managed to collect seven points from their opening four games, which has seen them surpass their final points tally from their ten games in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

This leaves them all the way up in 3rd in their World Cup qualifying group, two points above Czech Republic below them, level on points with 2nd placed Northern Ireland, and five points adrift of leaders Germany.

Their points have come from victories over San Marino and Norway and a goalless draw away to Czech Republic. These promising results have since been followed by a 4-0 loss to Northern Ireland and a 2-1 win against Qatar in a friendly in March. In all honesty they aren’t expected to realistically challenge for qualification to the World Cup, but these are very promising signs for Azerbaijan.

Germany bid farewell to veteran striker Lukas Podolski on Wednesday, with the ex-Arsenal man netting the only goal of the game against England with a trademark thunderbolt from his left foot. Overall it was a rather flat performance from Germany though.

It does extend their unbeaten streak to seven games though, with six of those being victories and their last defeat being their knockout blow from France in Euro 2016. They also haven’t conceded a single goal since then.

This might not be as comfortable a victory as you would expect for Germany though. Azerbaijan have only lost five of their last 22 home games and haven’t lost by more than a two goal margin since 2011. Germany, meanwhile, have only won three of their last ten away games by more than two goals, so odds of 8/11 for an Azerbaijan +3 Handicap Win look good value for money. I’m backing that alongside a 2-0 win for Germany at 9/2 for my correct score predictions.
