      Barnet vs Brentford Predictions

Will Brentford end up on the wrong end of a cup shock on Monday night? They’re heading for Barnet on Monday night, as the FA Cup Fourth Round comes to a close. The Championship side will be hoping for a victory in this clash, while the National League hosts will be aiming to cause an upset. Darren Currie takes his side into this clash aiming to get an escape from their poor league displays, which have left them midtable in the fifth tier. However, can they bridge the gap to Brentford?

A big cup tie under the lights is a massive occasion for the hosts, who don’t have all that much to look forward to in the National League.  They’re stuck outside the EFL for another year, but Barnet could claim a Championship scalp here. That would be huge for the home support, who are likely to turn up in their numbers for a FA Cup tie under the lights. Will having that support behind them be enough to cause problems against the visitors?

Brentford have been far from consistent this season, with their campaign seeing them go from promotion contenders to relegation outsiders. The visitors are set to stay in the second tier this season, but they’ve massively drifted since their great early start. We expect the Championship side to edge the battle of the Bees, as they have little reason to rotate in this trip. However, the visitors have just lost their star defender to Bournemouth, so could they be caught out at the back?

Chris Mepham was a standout for Brentford, but the £12million man was in the middle of a dodgy back-line. The away side saw both teams score in 71% of their league games on the road so far. They’ve conceded in 93% of their away trips overall, while we can see the National League side being up for this one in front of their home support. Given that the Championship side have a weakened defence and a poor record at the back, Barnet should make a breakthrough.

The hosts have scored in their last six FA Cup ties, and seven of their last eight at home in this competition. We see them scoring at home again here, but with Brentford back in form they should do enough to win this tie. We’re going for both teams to score on Monday night, and a victory for the favourites.
