Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich Predictions

  • Bayer Leverkusen have won five of their last six Bundesliga games.
  • Bayern Munich have failed to win three of their last five Bundesliga away games (including two from last season).
  • Bayern Munich have conceded at least one goal in eight of their last nine Bundesliga away games.

Leverkusen looking to knock champions off their perch

Bayer Leverkusen may never get a better chance to knock the 31-time Bundesliga champions off their perch when they host Bayern Munich at BayArena on Sunday.

Leverkusen have played some superb football so far this season and have the weapons to really take the game to Julian Nagelsmann’s side, which could be the key to this game of second versus first. Bayern rarely come up against domestic opponents with such all-round strength and have, in recent times, feasted on Borussia Dortmund’s defensive frailties whenever they have laid down the gauntlet.

But Gerardo Seoane’s charges have got the balance between attacking with full-backs and keeping enough bodies back to stop counter-attacks just right so far – and they may just be able to hold a frightening Bayern forward line in check enough to get a positive result. Whether a draw will be seen as a positive outcome for Leverkusen on Sunday remains to be seen, but we like their chances – and the odds – of the hosts avoiding defeat to a Bayern side that have been shipping more goals than usual.

Bayern defence looks vulnerable

Their 2-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt prior to October’s international break was an unexpected sign of weakness with a free header from a corner and a goalkeeping error proving costly. Bayern’s defence conceded more goals than Leverkusen’s last season, even though they finished 26 points better off, so there appears to be an underlying issue there for Seoane’s men to exploit.

And with Florian Wirtz in superb form, Patrick Schick fit and scoring goals and the full backs flying forward at every chance, we can see Leverkusen scoring at least once on Sunday. A 2-2 correct score play could prove profitable here as Bayern have conceded nine goals in their last six away Bundesliga trips while Leverkusen are averaging 2.67 goals per game at home this term.
