Belgrano vs Boca Juniors Predictions

Monday’s Superliga Argentina action sees Belgrano playing host to Boca Juniors. The visitors arrive as huge favourites to win the match and are expected to put another nail in Belgrano’s relegation coffin.

With captain and talisman Matias Suarez having abandoned the sinking Belgrano ship to join River, El Pirata are in huge trouble and look almost certain to be playing second tier football. La B came into the campaign in big trouble on the average points table used to relegate sides and having won just 2 of their 17 Superliga matches so far this season, taking just 14 points in the process, they’ve only worsened their position.

Indeed, no matter what the results are this weekend, Belgrano will remain in the drop zone and time is running out fast for them. The hosts don’t concede many goals and indeed, they’ve kicked the year off with 0-0 draws against Union and Argentinos respectively, but there’s simply no goals in the team and that’s something more than reflected in the fact they’ve scored just 10 all season.

Meanwhile, visitors Boca arrive looking to continue their positive start to life under new manager Gustavo Alfaro. The ex-Huracan boss looked like facing a difficult ask to raise spirits in a group still wounded from losing the Copa Libertadores final to arch enemy River but has done a good job so far, first drawing away at Newell’s prior to hammering San Martin de San Juan 4-0 and beating Godoy Cruz 2-0 last weekend.

Now in 3rd, but only with a 1 point margin for error in the all important top 4 places, Boca certainly have a lot riding on their remaining fixtures and arrive desperate for all 3 points as a result. Now unbeaten in 6 league matches, 5 of which wins, confidence is running high in visiting ranks and their prospects look bright coming into this trip to Cordoba.

Ultimately, Belgrano’s home crowd always gives them the slightest of chances going into every game they play in Alberdi, but their team looks short on the quality needed to get out of the mess they’re currently in. It’s wins the hosts need but with an opponent as strong as Boca in town, it’s hard to see one being found this weekend.

Indeed, we’re happy to back the visitors winning this one with maximum confidence. Man for man, Boca are by far a stronger team than Belgrano and we just cannot envisage them slipping up here. Boca have conceded just 2 goals over their last 6 Superliga matches and with Belgrano so poor in attack, that should play a big part in a likely 1-0 away win.
