Besiktas vs Olympiakos Predictions

Olympiakos failed to use their home advantage to it’s full effect last week as they drew 1-1 with Besiktas, putting them in a rather difficult position coming into this second leg tie. They led at half time thanks to an Esteban Cambiasso goal, but just eight minutes after the break, Vincent Aboubakar equalised for the visitors. It wasn’t an undeserved draw for the Turkish side either, as they controlled the ball throughout the match and had far more attacking opportunities than Olympiakos.

Besiktas have followed this up with a 2-2 draw at home to Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig, leaving them two points clear at the top of the table with surprise challengers Basaksehir hot on their tails.

The hosts have now remained unbeaten for seven matches in all competitions and have won five of these, whilst at home they have won nine, drawn one, and lost one of their last 11 games in all competitions.

Olympiakos started the build up to their first leg tie with Besiktas by sacking manager Paulo Bento, despite them leading the Greek Super League. They have since drawn against Besiktas and beaten Atromitos 2-0 at home, but their form is far from perfect overall.

The visitors have won three, drawn two, and lost three of their last eight outings in all competitions. Away from home it’s a similar story with three wins, three draws, and two defeats in their last eight outings, but a trip to Besiktas is going to be much more difficult than games against the likes of Atromitos and Veria.

Olympiakos already know what Vincent Aboubakar can do to sides, and they will need to keep a close eye on the striker. He has scored 11 goals in just 17 starts in all competitions this season, with five of those goals coming in continental competition. Considering he scored last week as well, backing him looks the best option for our anytime goalscorer predictions. Cenk Tosun, who has scored 19 goals in 33 outings in all competitions, is also a good choice.

Besiktas have been hit with some injury problems in the back line though, and they have conceded in all of their home European games this season. They have only kept four clean sheets in their last 16 home matches in all competitions, and Olympiakos have scored in eight of their last 11 on the road. The visitors have also netted four of their five trips away in Europe, so backing Both Teams to Score at 11/10 looks a very attractive bet. I’m also backing a 2-1 win for Besiktas at 15/2 for my correct score predictions.
