Blackburn Rovers vs Lincoln City Predictions

Can Blackburn’s unbeaten start to the new campaign see them beat the League Two leaders? Tony Mowbray’s side are searching for a spot in the third round of the EFL Cup this week, as they welcome Lincoln to Ewood Park. The hosts have made a fantastic start since securing promotion, but can they add a cup run to their strong Championship form? They’re facing a side who have recent experience when it comes to giant-killings, so this could be a difficult night for Mowbray and his side.

Blackburn beat promotion contenders Brentford on Saturday, a result which has kept them unbeaten in the second tier. They’ve got to be pleased with their bright start, which has brought two victories in their last three games. Mowbray’s style of play has also impressed, as Rovers aren’t defending their way to glory. They like having players push on to get in to attacking positions, and have added creativity to their side in midfield. They have more than enough to stay up, and judging by their start they could do more than that.

Lincoln were hoping for promotion last season too, but they went out in the semi-finals of the League Two play-offs. They have bounced back well despite that set-back, and they’ve raced to the top of the table in the early stages of the season. Four wins and a draw from their opening five matches have put them two points clear of the rest, and they’re on course for another promotion push. That form brought them an impressive victory in the EFL Cup too, as they beat Port Vale 4-0.

The visitors will be looking for a shock here, following their incredible FA Cup shocks last year. However, Blackburn got off to a great start in this competition, winning 5-1 at League Two Carlisle. They’re going to be looking for another high scoring win, and they’re unlikely to make many changes ahead of this cup clash. We expect them to go in with a strong side, and that should bring more goals against lower league opposition.

The visitors have managed to score in seven of their last eight away trips in this competition. However, Rovers are packed with attacking talent, and they should have more than enough to win this game comfortably. Given Blackburn’s style and start we see them impressing here, while Lincoln have every chance of landing a consolation goal after their great start in front of goal. We think the best way to go on this one is to back over 2.5 goals in this clash, while we’re going with a 3-1 win for the Championship side.
