Boca Juniors vs Lanus Predictions

Sunday’s Superliga Argentina action sees Boca Juniors doing battle with an improving Lanus outfit. The hosts arrive as big favourites to claim all 3 points, but an open game with plenty of chances at both ends is expected to be in order.

Boca come into the game somewhat desperate for the points after they slipped up last weekend away to relegation threatened Belgrano, drawing 1-1 and putting in a far from an impressive showing against a fairly weak opponent. Only inside the Libertadores spots by 1 point, the hosts need a strong end to the season in order to make sure they don’t miss out on a place in South America’s premier competition.

Nonetheless, spirits won’t be too low following last weekend’s draw in Cordoba and El Xeneize do at least remain unbeaten in competitive action under new boss Gustavo Alfaro’s watch. Under him, Boca have claimed 8 points from a possible 12 and were particularly convincing in his only home game to date; a 3-0 win over Godoy Cruz that means the hosts have now won 4 of their last 5 Superliga home games.

Meanwhile, Lanus were in complete freefall earlier on in the season but are now rapidly improving under the watch of Luis Zubeldia. Terrible performances in the league’s opening rounds had it looking like El Granate may well be pulled into relegation danger on the average points table but they’re now clear of that and are playing in a confident manner.

Indeed, the visitors are unbeaten in an impressive 7 league matches, winning 5 times in the process and with 4 of said victories having come consecutively prior to this game, spirits are very high prior to making the short trip to La Bombonera. Visiting Boca is never an easy task, but there’s no doubting the visitors look as though they could give the hosts a run for the money in their current shape and will be hungry for a result to boost their chances of ending the season in a Copa Sudamericana spot.

Ultimately, as is always the case when Boca are at home, they come into the game as big favourites but we think Lanus will make a game of it and it should be a fairly entertaining watch.

With both sides in confident shape and looking sharp going forward, we really see value in backing both nets to be hit and the Both Teams to Score market is exactly where our money is going. Boca have notched in 8 consecutive Superliga matches, plunging home an average of 1.87 goals a game in the process and with Lanus having scored in their last 6 Superliga matches, we shouldn’t be short on action in a game we fancy Boca to edge by a 2-1 margin of victory.
