Bordeaux vs Dijon Predictions

• Dijon have the second worst away record in Ligue 1 with just three wins in their last 15 games in all competitions, two of which came against lower league opposition in the cup.

Bordeaux finally back on track but shaky at home

Despite a fantastic November that saw them win a plethora of matches over Monaco and Nantes, les Girondins lost six of their seven matches between the start of December and middle of January. It was a grim period for Paolo Sousa’s men as they lost to the likes of Brest (0-2) and third-tier Pau (2-3). However, thanks to a collective effort spearheaded by Ligue 1 legend Jimmy Briand, they are now unbeaten in their last four games. 

It hasn’t been the most glamorous of runs but they have drawn against 2nd place Marseille and beaten Nantes in this time. They were once again scrappy last week as they edged past a ten-man Metz side 2-1 but nevertheless it will be three welcome points for Sousa and his men. 

However, it shouldn’t be masked how lucky they have been in these matches. In three of the four games their opponents ended with ten men, just 230 of the total 360 minutes were played against teams with eleven men on the pitch and this was largely contributive to Bordeaux’s success in this run as just one of their four goals came against a full strength team. Pair this with their home record, which is the third worst in Ligue 1, and you can start to see how this might be a difficult match for les Girondins. 

Dijon in need of a shakeup at the back

Dijon have a good opportunity to beat Bordeaux here – if they can keep eleven men on the pitch – but their defence has somewhat capitulated in recent weeks which may hold them back. The Mustards have never been a side famed for their defence but they have conceded eleven goals in their last three matches now, five of which were scored by the sixth and seventh worst attacks in Ligue 1.

They will also be hampered by playing as the away team here. The Mustards have really struggled when playing on the road this season. They’ve won just three of their 15 away games so far with two of them coming against lower league opposition in the cup. In the league Dijon have the second worst record away from home with just five of a possible 36 points picked up so far. They’ve also scored the least goals with just two in their last eight away days. 

Dijon’s away form to curse them here?

As a result of Dijon’s awful away form, we’re edging this one in favour of the hosts. As much as they have been lucky recently, Bordeaux have won each of their last four matches against Dijon to nil. Their last home game was also an impressive 0-0 draw with 2nd place Marseille so we think they’ll have enough about them to beat Dijon here. Dijon have scored in ten of their last eleven games though so we’re backing this to finish 2-1 to the hosts.
