Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

  • Brentford’s 0-2 defeat to Barnsley ten days ago was their first home league reverse in 13 games (W7, D5).
  • The Bees have won five of their last six Championship matches at Griffin Park but have conceded in seven of their last nine at home.
  • Sheffield Wednesday have lost ten of their 15 away trips this season.

Brentford to Break Slump Against Stricken Owls

Brentford desperately need to curb their three game losing run here to keep hold of second spot and the Bees are backed to do so against a Sheffield Wednesday side that have lost ten of their 15 starts on the road this season.

It’s been a nightmare ten days or so for Brentford. It looked as though the Bees had suffered nothing more than a slight blip when their 21 game unbeaten sequence was finally ended by Barnsley (0-2) but Thomas Franke’s men have gone on to lose twice more in the last week against QPR (2-1) and Coventry City (2-0).

The Bees remain second by the skin of their teeth although fourth-placed Swansea are just two points down with two games in hand. It means nothing less than a victory will do this Wednesday for the hosts, who will hope to resume their fine home form having won five on the spin at Griffin Park prior to their reverse against the Tykes.

Fortunately for Brentford, they take on an Owls outfit languishing in the bottom three. The visitors have been woeful on their travels this term and are also in poor form after three defeats from four.

Franke’s side should outgun their South Yorkshire opponents here, although odds of around 1/2 for a home win alone make little appeal based on the Bees’ worrying recent results. They’re clearly the superior team with 22 places and 29 points separating the sides in the Championship table, but the more appealing option is to back a Brentford win with both teams to score.

The Bees have conceded in seven of their last nine home starts, so a Wednesday goal can give punters a significant odds boost at Griffin Park, where we’re also forecasting a 3-1 correct score.
