Bristol City vs Brentford Predictions

Brentford are back to winning ways, after landing a plum clash with Bolton at home right before Christmas. The Bees were able to secure three points with a narrow win over a dire Bolton side, but they’re set to face a tougher challenge when they meet Bristol City this weekend. One victory is far from enough for the visitors, who have dropped into relegation contention with a terrible run. Can they build on that success, or will they be back in trouble again after Boxing Day?

Bristol City managed to claim a point in their visit to Pride Park at the weekend, holding off a strong Derby side. That has kept the Robins in midtable over Christmas, as they struggle to match last season’s impressive efforts. They are only seven points shy of a spot in the top six, so there’s plenty of room for improvement in the coming months.

Brentford were in the mix for a top-six finish not too long ago, but things have fallen apart for them in recent months. They’ve fallen down the standings, going from automatic promotion candidates to a relegation contender. Their downturn started under boss Dean Smith, but new manager Thomas Frank has failed to get things back on track since taking charge at Griffin Park. Will he build on a much needed weekend win to drag the Bees back up the table?

The Robins are well-priced favourites for this one, but after failing to win in their previous four home games we aren’t entirely convinced. They’ve managed to win just 37% of their games at Ashton Gate this season, leaving them with one of the worst home records in the league. On top of that, they’ve conceded over a goal per game here, keeping a clean sheet in just 18% of their home outings.

Brentford can take advantage of that, given that they have kept their attacking principles. Their defending leaves a lot to be desired, but there’s more than enough in the Bees’ forward line to put pressure on Bristol City. While Brentford have failed to keep a clean sheet away from home this season, they’ve seen both teams score in 73% of their trips. We are backing them to add to their goal tally at an inconsistent Bristol City side, with BTTS our main tip here, along with a 1-1 final score.
