Bristol City vs Sheffield United predictions and betting tips for Saturday afternoon’s Championship clash. Two in-form sides come up against each other looking to get all three points for a sustained promotion push. Read on for all our predictions and betting tips.

Reason For Bristol City vs Sheffield United Betting Tips

Bristol City endured a slow start to the season but have recently picked up momentum and look once again like the exciting side they were last year, when they reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The team did not win any of their first three league fixtures. They drew against Nottingham Forest at home and Bolton away, two results which can be seen retrospectively as two points gained. However, Bristol needed a win coming into their third match but lost 2-0 at home to Middlesbrough in an underwhelming performance. Moreover, after last season’s heroics, they went out in the first round of the Carabao Cup against League One Plymouth.

However, Bristol have won three consecutive matches to rise up the table and bring back some optimism around the club. They dismantled Queens Park Rangers 3-0 away from home, whilst thrashed Blackburn Rovers and narrowly beat Swansea away. These all represent strong results against good teams in some tough grounds and show that Bristol City still possess real quality.

Perhaps it needed a few games for the team to gel after so many first-team players left the club in the summer. Defensive stalwarts Aden Flint and Joe Bryan left, as well as attacker Bobby Reid all departed and left a dent in the core of the team. However, striker Andreas Weimann has proven to be a more than able replacement for Reid, with five goals already, although the number of defensive injuries Bristol have experienced so far means that is still a work in progress.

Like Bristol City, Sheffield United also had a slow start to the season. They lost their first two matches to raise questions about their promotion credentials. A shock defeat to Swansea at home was followed by a comprehensive defeat by Middlesbrough to suggest Sheffield United would not build on the progress they had made last season.

Since then, they have proven any doubters wrong, with four consecutive league victories. The turning point came away at QPR, where the team showed real character to come from behind and claim all three points. From then, the team has beaten Norwich, Bolton and Aston Villa to shoot up the table and take their place amongst the Championship elite.

In particular, their performance against Aston Villa was stunning, with a 4-1 win against one of the strongest sides in the division. The team played some fantastic football, especially new recruit Oliver Norwood who scored and assisted from some brilliant set-pieces. He seems to have been the missing piece and the team are playing some lovely flowing football.

Sheffield United truly look like a promotion candidate now and we think they will continue this form against Bristol City on Saturday. Bristol City have slipped up in other games featuring the stronger sides in the league and it could happen again here.

A Draw No Bet is a smart move, as Bristol do have quality within their ranks but Sheffield are looking so strong at the moment. A 2-1 correct score-line reflects the closeness of the teams but that extra bit of quality Sheffield United have.

Head to Head

Bristol City have lost their last three home league matches against Sheffield United since a 3-0 victory in November 2010. None of the last 10 league meetings between Bristol City and Sheffield United have ended as a draw – the Robins have won three and the Blades have won seven of those games.
