Brondby vs Genk Predictions

There were goals galore last week as Brondby and Genk clashed in their UEFA Europa League play-off 1st Leg in Belgium. The Danish team would have been pleased to chalk up two away goals but they still find themselves with something of a mountain to climb as we head into the 2nd Leg on Thursday.

Brondby were drawing 2-2 at one stage last week but were totally blown away in the final 35 minutes of the contest. A brace from Tanzanian forward Mbwana Samatta saw Genk assume control and Leandro Trossard’s 90th minute strike was a real killer blow to Brondby’s chances of turning this tie around with home advantage.

They’ve not been in great form overall either so there’s little to suggest they will stage a miraculous comeback. Brondby were winners at the weekend in their league but it’s 3 defeats from their last 5 overall now in all competitions. They’ve not looked as impressive in the Danish Superliga having done everything but win the title last term and mentally they will struggle to convince themselves this tie is still alive against a strong Genk side.

The Belgians have made a fantastic start to this campaign winning 9 of their 10 matches so far in all competitions. They top their domestic league and have won all five of their Europa League fixtures so far, seeing off both Fola Esch and Lech Poznan prior to this tie, which was supposedly going to offer a tougher test.

They are a very positive team with plenty of goals in them. They’ve netted twice or more in all their Europa League outings this term and are averaging 3.1 goals per game in all competitions. However they do take risks and showed last week they can be vulnerable defensively. They were involved in another high-scoring match at the weekend, winning 3-2 in the league and all of their last four matches have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals in total.

Their results suggest they only really know how to play one way and it’s hard to see them parking the bus here and settling for merely protecting their lead. Brondby have to be bold and chase goals but they have conceded 11 in their last 5 matches in all competitions and there’s a danger they will be picked off on the break by this in-form Genk side.

Overall it promises to be another open game and backing Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score looks to offer value.
