Burnley vs Leicester City Predictions

  • No Premier League side has conceded more set piece goals than Leicester this term
  • Ben Mee has had six shots from set pieces in his last four games
  • Leicester have lost their last four league trips
  • The Clarets have claimed seven points from the last nine available

Timely return for Burnley

When these two were first scheduled to meet back in January, Burnley had just lost Chris Wood and they were struggling to cobble a team together that had any attacking threat. They ended up getting the game postponed due to lack of numbers and that’s arguably worked out quite well.

That January clash looked all set for a Leicester win, but this one looks to be anything but. While the Foxes progressed in Europe last week, their patchy domestic form leaves them as questionable favourites going into Tuesday’s clash.

Problems mounting for Leicester

Injuries continue to be an issue for Brendan Rodgers’ side, so juggling their league commitments with the Europa Conference League will be tricky. While the Ulsterman has denied it in press conferences, that competition is the best route back into Europe for the side 13th in the Premier League.

Beating Randers 7-2 on aggregate was comprehensive, but there were signs of their defensive issues in both wins. The Foxes have gone nine games without a clean sheet, failing to shutout the opposition in any of their league trips this term.

Leicester have conceded a league-high 13 set-piece goals this term. That should be a worry for them in this trip, as half of Burnley’s home goals have come via set pieces. The Clarets have made the most of them of late, with Ben Mee getting six shots from dead ball scenarios across his last four appearances. Back him to score here at a big price.

Burnley value to punish Foxes

Set piece threat is going to be a major advantage for Burnley in this one, while they’re looking to restore Turf Moor to its status of old. They are unbeaten in home meetings with bottom-half sides this term, while the Clarets have boosted their survival hopes with seven points from their last three games.

Leicester have lost six of their last eight away games, while they’ve lost each of their last four Premier League trips. They’ve also been beaten in three of their last five visits to Turf Moor, so I’m siding with the hosts to win this one at a shade under 2/1.

Leicester have conceded twice in each of their last five league trips. With Burnley looking much improved at the back of late, I’m siding with them to win 2-0 in my correct score prediction.
