Bury vs Swindon Predictions

A quick look at the League Two table will have many people believing that the destination of the title is all done and dusted, but ask any of the chasing pack and they will tell you that they still believe they can close the gap and put their name on the trophy. This weekend sees one of those title hopefuls, Bury, face off against a Swindon Town side who also have plenty to play for as they hope they can chase down a spot in the end of season play-offs.

Bury go into this match hoping they can improve on a performance which saw them unable to overcome a Grimsby Town side who have little left to play for with the match ending in a dull 0-0 stalemate. The hosts go into this match eight points off Lincoln City, who currently occupy top spot, and they know that they can ill afford any slip ups between now and the end of the season if they are to do what now looks unlikely and win the title. Bury are in solid form and they come into this match as the division’s top scorers with 71 goals coming from their 38 outings so far.

Making the trip to Gigg Lane is a Swindon Town side who have also been in solid form in the build up to this clash. The visitors are currently in 10th spot and, although they are not out of the running for the end of season play-offs, they know that they have their work cut out for them if they are to earn a spot in the top seven. A major concern to this play-off bid of late is their inability to keep the ball out of the net when on their travels as their last three away matches have finished with two or more goals conceded.

Although the bookies are clearly fancying the hosts to get the job done in this clash, we think that things may be a little more complicated than the odds indicate. Instead of looking at the win-draw-win market, we think the goal market is a far safer bet. Given the hosts excellent scoring record and their visitors recent inability to keep the ball out of the net on the road, we think backing Bury to score over 1.5 goals is the way to go.
