Caen vs Dijon Predictions

Two points and one place separate Caen and Dijon in the Ligue 1 table, but both sit in the relegation zone heading into this weekends action. Both teams picked up important wins in the league last weekend and will be hoping to build upon that in Sunday’s crucial relegation six-pointer, where a draw doesn’t really do either side much good.

Nice should have lead at the break against Caen, but missed a twenty-eight minute penalty. The luck appeared to be on the side of the relegation battlers as Djiku put Caen in front sixteen minutes from time, and despite being dominated during the ninety minutes the visitors took home all three points. Dijon and Rennes put on a five-goal thriller at the Stade Gaston-Gérard last weekend, where a twentieth minute strike from Aguerd saw Dijon lead at the interval. Rennes equalised early in the second half, but Jeannot restored Dijon’s lead shortly after. This time it was Rennes turn to make a quick response as the visitors levelled in the sixty-first minute. This game could have gone either way, but fortunately for Dijon Said’s eighty-third minute effort proved enough for the hosts to claim all three points.

The recent head to head record between these two clubs and their performances in the weeks leading up to this crucial match, suggests that Dijon are the most likely winners. Dijon have won four of their last seven matches against Caen, and four of those seven games have seen both teams score. Caen have lost four of their last six matches and both of their recent wins have come away from home, while Dijon are unbeaten in their last three games after picking up two wins and a draw. Both teams have scored in each of Dijon’s last two wins, and that’s why we think the final scoreline will be 2-1 to the visitors this Sunday.

Crivelli top scores for the home side with six Ligue 1 goals so far this season, while Said has netted four for Dijon. We’re confident that Dijon will win on Sunday, and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1. The visitors have form in their favour and very good recent record against their hosts, and that’s why we fancy Dijon to just edge Sunday’s relegation six-pointer.
