      Caen vs Reims Predictions

Caen have really been putting on the style recently with some massive results that have given them a golden chance of staying in the league when that seemed impossible just a few weeks ago. They sit 18th, in the relegation play-off spot, but have picked up ten of a possible 18 points over their last six games to really lift them up the table. Wins over Nice and Monaco have been massive but they could have benefited from another at the weekend. They had a crucial six-pointer against bottom club Guingamp, a game that neither team could afford to lose, and in the end it fizzled out to a 0-0 draw. The two extra points would have put them within one point of 17th placed Monaco but all is not lost as the league enters its final three games.

For a team in their position, Caen have been very sound defensively in recent weeks with four clean sheets in their last six games and just three goals conceded in that time. They face an uncharacteristic Reims side and should be looking to take advantage of their’s opponents’ poor form but Caen have the worst home record in the league so will need to be at their best to win.

Reims’ form has slightly fell off a cliff and it looks as if they’re going to finish off this season with a whimper. They won five of their eight games between late January and mid March but they are now winless in their last six games with heavy defeats to Strasbourg (0-4) and Nîmes (0-3) being real indicators of how much they have diverted from the vein of form that looked like it was going to take them into Europe at one point.

In the aforementioned solid vein of form between January and March they managed to be fluid in the final third and score a high number of goals. Their defence was still very leaky but the attacking prowess of Rémi Oudin and Co. helped them on their way. Now that the goals have dried up, they are really suffering and could drop out of the top ten if they’re not careful.

Reims have scored just two goals in their last six games and with them travelling to a very resolute Caen side, we doubt they’ll find their attacking feet here. Caen are on a run of three consecutive clean sheets and with such a big prize on the line, we’re backing the home side to win 1-0.
