Cambridge United vs Scunthorpe Predictions

Fans of football will know that the new season really is upon us when we the midweek fixture list is full and this Tuesday evening in League Two brings us exactly that. The midweek clash between Cambridge United and Scunthorpe United pits two sides against each other who will be determined to get three points in order to ensure they remain on course for accomplishing their goals.

Cambridge United will be delighted with the way their season has begun as, although they had to settle for back to back 0-0 draws in their opening two league matches, they managed to emerge victorious in the Checkatrade Trophy in midweek against Championship side Brentford and they backed that up with a vital 2-1 win away at promotion hopefuls, Colchester United. Although the start has been solid, the lack of goalscoring output is still a concern and the hosts go into this match having scored just three goals in their first five competitive outings of the season.

Making the trip to the Abbey Stadium is a Scunthorpe United side who will be hoping that they can get three points to kick start an awful beginning to the campaign. The visitors will have been hoping to begin their season strong after their relegation but three defeats in a row and a draw at the weekend means that it looks like an uphill battle for them to bounce back at the first attempt. The Iron’s chances are further damaged by their seemingly inability to keep the ball out of the back of the net and their four matches so far has seen them concede an average of 2.25 goals per game.

The hosts will no doubt fancy their chances of getting a result but, despite their visitor’s troubles at the back, we find it hard to rely on their firepower. Given that Scunthorpe have only managed three goals themselves this season, we think that goals may be at a premium. With this in mind, we think that backing there to be less than 2.5 goals scored represents the best opportunity for a decent return.
