Cameroon vs Ghana Predictions

Can African champions Cameroon edge this rematch from the 2017 tournament? These two met in the last four two years’ ago, with the sides each aiming to land silverware this time around. However, they’ve had very different starts to the competition, which has left both sides pushing for a victory for different reasons. The defending champions could edge into the last 16 on Saturday with a game to spare. Meanwhile, Ghana are hoping to get their silverware chase back on track.

Cameroon were comfortable 2-0 winners against Guinea-Bissau in their opening game of the tournament. That’s set them up to return to the knockout round as they look to defend their title in Egypt. They were supposed to host the 2019 edition of this competition, but instead, the Indomitable Lions are on foreign soil seeking their sixth title in this competition. Will they be able to deal out a blow to perennial contenders Ghana?

Ghana lost out in the semis and the third-place playoff in 2017. That was their latest blow in their chase to win this competition for the first time since 1982. They are hunting for their fifth African title, but they’ve been falling short regularly since hosting the competition in 2008. They’ve reached the last four at least in the last six editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. That includes two runners up spots and one bronze medal. Ghana may be going for gold, but they aren’t shaping up like contenders at the moment.

There’s trouble in the camp, with Asamoah Gyan pulling out of the squad after being stripped of the captaincy. His return – requested by Ghana’s President – doesn’t mean he’s dropped the issue. The atmosphere probably isn’t great in the fallout of that, while they started off with a 2-2 draw against Benin. That’s left the Black Stars in trouble in their bid to win the group. They could be five points behind Cameroon after this game, especially given that Ghana have lost back to back meetings with Cameroon.

The champions have won four of their last five matches, while they’re on a seven-game unbeaten run in this tournament. They’ve won their last three Africa Cup of Nations games, while they are meeting a Ghana team who have won one of five games in this competition. With issues for Ghana in the squad, we don’t see why the bookies have them as outsiders against a strong Cameroon outfit. Given that, we’re going with Cameroon to win on the Draw No Bet market as our pick for this clash.
