Caracas vs Delfin Predictions

Wednesday’s Copa Libertadores second qualification round, second leg clash sees Venezuelans Caracas doing battle with Ecuadorians Delfin. Despite failing to win the first leg on home soil, Delfin are still favourites to advance to the next round.

As happy as they were to escape the first leg with a 1-1 draw, hosts Caracas were very lucky to do exactly that, scoring with their only shot on target and surviving sustained spells of Delfin pressure. Having came into the tie as huge underdogs, Caracas do have a slightly bigger chance of advancing now on home soil, but there can be little doubting they’ll have to improve on what they produced last week if they are to do so.

Like most Venezuelan teams, Caracas have tended to struggle in the Libertadores in recent years and even if they do progress further than this tie, they’re still unlikely to make any real waves in the competition. Having lost 5 of their last 7 Libertadores outings, scoring just twice and conceding an average of 1.57 goals a game in the process, it’s clear for all to see that it’s going to take a special night at the Estadio Olímpico de la UCV for the hosts to advance.

Meanwhile, Delfin arrive kicking themselves that they couldn’t establish an advantage on home soil but given the manner in which they controlled the game, they’ll be confident in picking up the right result this time. Having already eliminated Paraguayans Nacional in the first round of qualifying, winning both legs in doing so, Delfin have shown their ability to perform on the continental stage and will be desperate to see off what is a weaker opponent on paper on Wednesday.

In good form, confidence is high in Delfin ranks and those taking to the pitch will do so in good spirits, despite last week’s draw. Unbeaten in 7 matches, winning 5 times in the process, the Ecuadorians are playing in an impressively consistent manner and will be hoping that kind of form translates onto the pitch come Wednesday night.

Ultimately, we cannot envisage lightning striking twice and don’t see Caracas avoiding defeat once again. Delfin were the only real threat in last week’s game and whilst Caracas are now at home, we still expect the visitors to dominate the game with their superior individual quality.

As such, a bet on an away win really appeals as far as the betting goes and at current prices, is exactly where our money is going. With the stakes so high, it’ll likely be quite a scrappy affair but Delfin have enough about them to edge it by a 1-0 margin.
