Carlisle vs Macclesfield Predictions

Given their financial plight and the departure of Sol Campbell as boss, Macclesfield were predicted by many to be strugglers in League Two, but although there remains plenty of time for things to go wrong, they have had a pretty solid start to the campaign. This weekend they make the trip to Cumbria to face off against a Carlisle United side who will be hoping for a big upturn in their form.

Carlisle United’s will be disappointed with their form going into this match and although they were able to end their run of defeats, a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient last time out does little to hide their poor performances of late. It is clear where the Cumbrians need to improve, as they have conceded 28 times in their 16 league games this season and have the second worst defensive record in the division.

Macclesfield Town have so far defied the odds and are not currently involved in a relegation scrap that many expected. The Silkmen have claimed a solid 20 points in their 15 outings so far this term and given that there is only one relegation place in League Two this season due to Bury being expelled from their league, they should be confident that they will not suffer the drop this term. In the league, they were on the end of a 3-0 defeat to Cheltenham Town last time out, a result which they will be hoping to put to bed as soon as possible.

Given that the hosts are in such poor form at the moment, it is hard to make any arguement for them emerging from this contest with the points. The bookies clearly can’t pick a winner in this one and have offered pretty generous odds for an away win, which is something we plan on taking advantage of. However, caution is advised so backing the “Draw – No Bet” clause seems to be the way to go.

In terms of a correct score tip, we cannot see there being a lot in this match. The hosts have a tendency to concede plenty so the visitors may be able to profit from that, but Carlisle can also be dangerous in attack. With this in mind, our money is going on a 2-1 away win.
