Cerro Porteno vs Atletico Mineiro Predictions

Wednesday’s Copa Libertadores group stage action sees Paraguayans Cerro Porteno doing battle with Brazilians Atlético Mineiro. The hosts will be gunning for the three points that would see them into the last 16.

Whilst Cerro Porteno came into the Libertadores with reasonable hopes of finishing in the top two of the group, not even the most optimistic of supporters could have envisaged them taking maximum points from a trip to Atletico Mineiro and home clashes with Zamora and Nacional. Nonetheless, El Ciclon have done exactly that and know that another win on Wednesday would see them into the knockout round.

Cerro arrive with morale at peak levels and performances on the pitch looking consistent and strong. The side have been fantastic in recent weeks and arrive having won 8 of their last 9 matches whilst scoring a huge average of 2.88 goals a game, leaving confidence very high coming into Wednesday’s clash.

Meanwhile, Atletico Mineiro were expected to top the group but have thus far looked far from impressive and are making extremely hard work of it. The Brazilians lost their opening two matches against Cerro and Nacional respectively and had to come from 2-0 down at home to Zamora to win 3-2 in their last Libertadores outing.

That win has them still in with a chance of progressing but they could really do with a result in Wednesday’s game; something that doesn’t look all that likely given their less than impressive away record in the competition. Prior to arrival in Paraguay, Atletico have previously won just 2 of their last 11 Libertadores away games, leaving their prospects looking bleak to say the least against the red hot hosts.

Ultimately, Cerro are where they are in the group on merit and they’ve been one of the most impressive sides in the competition so far this year. They’re looking strong across all fronts in 2019 and will be itching to complete the double over Atletico on Wednesday evening.

All things considered, backing the hosts on the Draw No Bet line looks to provide excellent value and is exactly where our money is going. Cerro have lost just 1 of their last 6 Libertadores home games, winning 4 times in the process and whilst at worst they shouldn’t lose to an Atletico side that is far from a force on the road in continental competition, we can envisage them running out 1-0 winners.
