      Charlton vs Birmingham Predictions

Charlton’s surprise promotion push could continue on Saturday, as the second-placed side host Birmingham. The Addicks are aiming to add to a strong run, which has seen them surprise plenty of sides in the second tier. They’ve got back to back wins behind them coming into this weekend, but will Lee Bowyer’s men add to that run?

In some ways, this fine start shouldn’t be too much of a shock. Charlton have lost just two of their last 25 games in all competitions (W16 D7 L2). However, the club were considered to have limited resources compared to their rivals, while they have gained promotion in spite of plenty of upheaval around the club. Bowyer has achieved some brilliant things so far, but will his side record another victory?

Birmingham currently sit ninth in the table, but there’s more gloom around the club than that suggests. They’ve moved level on points with the likes of Fulham and Preston, but there is little optimism for the visitors. They have been recording their points at home, gaining wins in favourable clashes with Barnsley and Stoke. However, this away trip is a stretch for the visitors.

Birmingham seem to be paying off a debt on the road in recent weeks, having used up all their luck in their opener. They won 1-0 at Brentford with an xG of 0.01 on the opening day, but since then they’ve been routinely blown away. With three-straight 3-0 losses, Birmingham are clearly poor travellers.

Meanwhile, Charlton are unbeaten so far this term, with four wins in six games behind them. They have marked themselves out as a tough side to face, with two wins in three at home. On top of that, the hosts head into this one on form, with back to back wins behind them ahead of a straightforward home clash. We are going with Charlton to follow up on that recent form with three points on Saturday afternoon.

On top of that, we’re backing a 2-1 win for Charlton here. The Blues have scored in their last four trips to the Valley, while two of the hosts’ three games here have seen both teams score. The Addicks have been doing just enough to get over the line in games, so we are tipping them to secure a 2-1 win this weekend.
