Charlton vs Scunthorpe Predictions

Charlton and Scunthorpe are two teams who’re out of form right now and two teams who’ve fallen behind with their respective targets this season. Having dominated the league for such a long time, Scunthorpe, who’ve now failed to win any of their last seven matches, are no longer front-runners for automatic promotion. Charlton, who haven’t won in eight, are now 12 points behind the top six and have almost no chance of getting in the play-offs.

With both of these two teams massively out of form at this moment in time, it would be very hard to fancy either with any real conviction. The bet that does catch the eye is ‘Both Teams to Score’.

Although they’re finding it hard to win, Graham Alexander’s men are still finding the net regularly enough, especially on the road. The visitors have scored at least once in each of their last six on the road and have only failed to find the net in two of their 17 away matches this season. It’s at the other end where Scunthorpe have encountered problems of late, conceding at least once in each of their last six away matches and in 12 of their last 13 overall. A rear-guard that was once a tough nut to crack is proving to be anything but at the moment.

In terms of conceding goals, Charlton are in a very similar position. The hosts have let in at least one goal in each of their last nine overall and in four of their last five at home. Against a Scunthorpe side who certainly know the way to goal, despite their recent form, it would be a surprise if the hosts recorded a clean sheet here. However, given the visitors shambolic defending of late, Charlton have every chance of getting on the score-sheet themselves. The fact that the hosts have scored four in their last two matches bodes well.

Both scoring and conceding has been a common theme for Scunthorpe on the road of late – both teams have scored in each of their last six away matches – and, with the way things are going, this trend is fancied to continue here.
