Chaves vs Belenenses Predictions

Chaves have lost their last two matches in the league and on Friday they play host to a Belenenses side who are without a win in their last four in the Primeira Liga. The hosts sit second from bottom in the table, three points of safety, but a victory on Friday could lift them out of the drop zone. Belenenses can’t move any higher in the league this weekend, even with a win, but a defeat could see the visitors slip down one position behind Santa Clara.

Chaves were beaten 4-0 away at Vitoria Guimaraes at the weekend, despite having more corners and more shots than their hosts. Guimaraes lead by three goals at the halftime interval, and scored one more goal in the second forty-five to end any hopes of a comeback for the visitors. Belenenses opened the scoring in the ninth minute at home to Santa Clara through Nuno Coelho, but five minutes before the break the visitors equalised through Zé Manuel. Goalscorer Coelho was shown his second yellow card of the game early in the second half, but despite going down to ten-men Belenenses held on to secure a point.

The performances of both teams over the last month or so and their recent head to head record, all points towards a draw between the two clubs on Friday and a good chance that both teams will score. Chaves and Belenenses have drawn three of their last six matches in the Primeira Liga. Chaves have failed to win their last four home games, while Belenenses have won just one of their last five games on the road. Both teams have scored in three of the last six meetings between these two clubs, while three of Chaves’ and three of Belenenses’ last five matches have also seen both teams score. With all of the above in mind, we’re backing Friday’s clash to end in a 1-1 draw.

Ghazaryan, André Luis, and Niltinho all joint top score for the hosts with three goals in the Primeira Liga this season, while Licá leads the way on eight for Belenenses. We’re confident that Friday’s game between Chaves and Belenenses will end in a draw, and have backed the final score to be 1-1. Both teams have drawn the majority of their last six matches in the Primeira Liga, and the head to head record between the pair is very tight. Both sides have struggled to see out games of late and we’re expecting more of the same on Friday night.
