Chaves vs Boavista Predictions

Chaves could move out of the relegation zone with a victory at home over Boavista on Sunday, but they will still be relying on results elsewhere to go in their favour. The visitors arrive having won their last two matches and sit two points above the relegation zone. We’re expecting a tight and tense game between two clubs in the thick of the relegation battle and feel one goal could be enough to claim all three points.

Chaves were narrowly beaten 2-1 away at high flying Braga last time out and even took the lead early in the second half through Luís Martins. Braga fought back though and scored the winning goal with ten minutes left on the clock. Boavista made it back to back wins in the Primeira Liga last weekend when they beat Santa Clara. Rafael Costa scored a fifty-ninth minute penalty for the hosts and it proved to be the games decisive moment as Boavista held on to secure a narrow victory.

Chaves’ good record against Boavista in recent seasons and the two teams form heading into Sunday’s game suggests the hosts have a good chance of taking all three points this weekend. Chaves are unbeaten in their last eight games against Boavista, with two wins and six draws. The hosts have won three of their last six matches in the Primeira Liga, while Boavista have lost four of their last six. Boavista have been poor on the road so far this season, winning just once against Portimonense back in August, while eleven of Chaves’ eighteen points in the Primeira Liga this season have been picked up at home. The visitors have failed to score in three of their last six matches and Chaves beat Boavista 2-1 in the pairs reverse fixture in September.

Neither of these two teams possess a natural goalscorer and it has shown in their results and league positions this season. Ghazaryan top scores for the hosts with three league goals, while Mateus leads the way for Boavista with the same total. We’re confident that Chaves will win on Sunday, and have backed the scoreline to end 1-0. Boavista’s defence doesn’t often concede too many goals, but their attack doesn’t score many either, and with the home advantage and form in their favour were backing Chaves to just do enough to win on Sunday.
