Cheltenham vs Exeter Predictions

It is always funny at this stage of the season to compare where you expected certain sides to be with where they currently find themselves. This weekend’s clash between Cheltenham Town and Exeter City sees two sides placed roughly where most people would have expected them to be at the start of the campaign, but before they can claim mission accomplished, there is still plenty of work which needs to be completed.

Cheltenham Town were widely tipped to be among the sides who would struggle towards the bottom of the league, but who should have enough quality to ensure their place in the Football League for another season. Following last weekends 3-1 win away at Crewe Alexandra, the hosts have all but ensured their survival with a 15 point cushion over the drop zone, and with the side in good form at the moment, they will certainly fancy their chances of taking a step closer to making their survival mathematically certain.

One man who has been instrumental in their survival bid, especially of late, is striker Luke Varney. The veteran has 14 goals to his name this season, and with four goals in his last four outings, he looks like a good bet to score anytime against Exeter this weekend.

The latest side to travel to Whaddon Road and attempt to earn a positive result is an Exeter City side who are battling hard to ensure they are involved in the play-offs come the end of the season. The Grecians have twice been denied in the play-off final in consecutive years, but if they are to have the opportunity to ensure they have the chance to make it third time lucky, then they will have to ensure they finish the season strongly.

The hosts are playing some of their best football of the campaign at the moment and look a real threat in front of goal, especially at home. With Cheltenham scoring in each of their last 13 home matches and the visitors scoring in each of their last five matches on the road, we think that backing both teams to score represents the best opportunity for a healthy return.
