Cheltenham vs Scunthorpe Predictions

It is always interesting to keep an eye on a side following a season in which they’ve been relegated, as some sides will immediately cut costs in a bid to ensure their future is not jeopardised, while others will look to invest and return to the level they have just been demoted from as soon as possible. Scunthorpe United have perhaps fallen between those two extremes but they will still be hoping that they have enough in the tank to win promotion and this weekends visit to Cheltenham Town could prove to be an important test to those credentials.

Cheltenham Town will be disappointed that they were not able to accomplish more on the opening day of the season as they left London empty handed following defeat to Leyton Orient. It was a difficult occasion for the hosts as Orient were celebrating their return to the Football League whilst also mourning the loss of Justin Edinburgh, the manager who led them there. Nevertheless, Town were unable to breach the defence of their hosts and they know that they need to improve this aspect of their game if they are to improve on their league positions of recent seasons.

It was not a happy return to England’s fourth tier for Scunthorpe United as they were defeated on the opening day of the season following a 2-0 loss to Swindon Town. The Iron were one of the lowest scorers in League One last season and they will be determined not to let that become a recurring theme as they bid to return to that level of football at the earliest opportunity.

With neither side managing to open their account on the first day of the season and both proving to be quite wasteful in front of goal, it is hard to make a case for this fixture seeing plenty of entertainment. Given that both teams have scored in just three of the previous 10 meetings between these two sides, we think the chances of at least one of the sides failing to find the back of the net are quite high and with this in mind, we think backing “Both Teams to Score – No” represents the best chance of a decent return.
