The FA Cup is here once again this weekend and there is a hint of magic in the air as the underdogs plot their route to upsetting the odds and booking a date with the big boys in the third round. At the Proact Stadium there is a clash between recently relegated National League side Chesterfield and Football League side Grimsby Town, with progression through to the FA Cup the prize on offer.

But the Spireites are also unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions – having won one and drawn 10.

Grimsby Town will look to reach the Emirates FA Cup third round for just the second time since 2004 this weekend. Michael Jolley’s side beat MK Dons 3-1 at Blundell Park in the first round of the competition, thanks to goals from Elliot Embleton, Wes Thomas, and Charles Vernam. The Mariners will be buoyed by the fact that they have picked their form up in their recent outings and in spite of being pretty goal shy this term, the fact that they have scored 13 times in their previous five outings suggests that they may have finally solved their problems up top.

Despite Chesterfield’s strange form, they have still struggled to overcome sides at the level below where Grimsby Town are at the moment. When you also consider Grimsby’s return to form and the fact that they have come out on top in each of their last two meetings between the sides, then we think that backing an away win is the way to go in this fixture.
