Chesterfield vs Sutton United Predictions

The international break may be upon us but whilst those fans who follow sides in England’s top two divisions have to find something else to do this weekend, in the National League it is business as usual. This weekend’s live offering on BT Sport sees a key clash as relegation threatened Chesterfield look to take a step closer to avoiding back to back demotions as they welcome play-off chasing Sutton United to the Proact Stadium.

After dropping into the National League at the end of last season, it has taken quite a while for Chesterfield to adjust to life in non-league football. The Spireites did make an excellent start to their campaign initially as they won their opening three league games, but a spell of 19 games without a win caused them to drop into the relegation zone and fears were high that the side would suffer a second successive relegation. However, things have improved since then, and after five wins from their last nine outings, the hosts are finally looking like they may be able to secure their spot in the National League for next season.

A major reason for their upturn in form is thanks to the abilities of striker Scott Boden. The 29-year-old has been excellent since joining from Gateshead and he has found the back of the net five times in his last four outings. With such impressive form going into this weekend’s match, it is hard to imagine he will not continue that this Saturday, so backing Boden to find the back of the net at anytime against Sutton United looks to be an excellent bet.

Making the trip to the Proact Stadium is a Sutton United who will be desperate for three points in order to get their bid for the play-offs back on track. The visitors have struggled of late and their bid to be playing in the Football League next season suffered a real dent when they went seven games without a win. United will be relieved that their poor form came to an end last time out as they overcame Gateshead with a 4-2 victory.

Given the importance of three points to both of these sides, we think that they will both approach the match with a positive mindset. The hosts have a new found confidence in front of goal but still have the same problems of keeping it out at the other end. This, coupled with the fact that their visitors have only failed to score in 21% of their away matches this season, we think that backing both teams to score is the way to go.
