      Chievo vs Cagliari Predictions

Even the most optimistic of Chievo fans are losing hope with every week that passes. Their club lie rock bottom of Serie A with just 10 games remaining in the season, and with the margin between them and safety sitting at 14 points it’s going to take a massive turnaround if they are to remain in the top flight.

So far, there haven’t been any immediate signs of an upturn in form from the hosts. Chievo haven’t won a match since their 1-0 victory over 19th placed Frosinone back in December, and that remains their only win of the season.

Since then they have lost six times and drawn three, bringing their overall tally up to a meagre 11 points from 28 games. Even Frosinone in 19th are a significant six points ahead of them, so things certainly aren’t looking bright for I Gialloblu.

Cagliari aren’t exactly setting the league alight, but they have at least shown some signs of improvement after last season’s relegation battle. With 10 games remaining they sit in 14th position, holding a six point cushion over the first of the relegation spots.

However, the majority of their success has been built around their home form. They have won three of their last five games, but all three victories have come on home soil. In fact, their last victory away from home was all the way back in September, and that is their only away win of the season.

12 trips away have elapsed since then, and recently things have gotten even bleaker for the travelling fans. Their 2-0 loss in Bologna earlier this month made it six losses on the bounce on the road, and they have failed to score in each of the last five.

This lack of goalscoring form is a real worry. Cagliari have scored just seven of their 25 Serie A goals away from home this season, and their last was before Christmas. Chievo, meanwhile, have managed a marginally better but still paltry 12 goals at home this season.

All of this points towards a low scoring game, and the chances are that at least one of the teams will fail to find the net. Both teams have scored in half of Chievo’s home games, while Cagliari have seen both teams score in only five of their 14 trips away. This makes backing Both Teams Not to Score look a preferable option on Friday, so we’re going for that along with a goalless draw for our correct score prediction.
