Chievo vs Sassuolo Predictions

Chievo’s horrible start to the Serie A campaign continued last weekend, with another defeat. They are bottom of the table after 10 matches, having been deducted three points earlier in the campaign. While that was a mild punishment, the Gialloblu have struggled since. They’re still on minus one point, which has put them on course for Serie B. Will they be able to kick off a push for survival by claiming all three points against Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon?

The hosts have made a managerial switch to keep them up, to little avail. Gian Piero Ventura came in with the aim of saving them from relegation, which didn’t endear them to the Italian public. Ventura is still being blamed for his failure to get Italy to the 2018 World Cup, despite a year having passed. Given that colossal failure, Ventura is an odd choice to try and save a side who already appear to be goners this season.

Meanwhile, Sassuolo have struggled in their recent games, as they’re without a win in their last four matches. They drew 2-2 at home to Bologna on Sunday, which came after a 0-0 draw at Sampdoria. It’s been over a month since their last win, which is sure to worry the Neroverdi. They had made a strong start, as they claimed 13 points from their first six matches, four points in their last four have seen them drop down the standings. At the same time, the visitors are only three points shy of fourth.

After getting into a relegation battle last season, this is a big improvement for Sassuolo. Meanwhile, Chievo are in awful form. The biggest concern for the home side is their awful record in front of goal. They’ve scored just 0.6 goals per game at home, failing to find the net in 60% of their home games. That’s seen them struggle to claim points, with Chievo picking up just two points all season. They’ve lost eight times in 10 games, and they’re being backed to lose once again on Sunday.

The visitors may be out of form, but that hasn’t boosted Chievo of late. The hosts went up against Atalanta in their last home game, which brought them face to face with a team who had failed to win in nine consecutive games. Despite that, Atalanta won 5-1 here, and Sassuolo should add more misery on the Gialloblu. After losing their last six games, we’re backing another defeat for Chievo here.
