Club Brugge vs Red Bull Salzburg Predictions

Club Brugge outperformed Monaco, but could not match the standards of Dortmund and Atletico in their Champions League group and therefore face RB Salzburg in the Europa League this week. The visitors stormed their group with six wins from their last matches against Celtic, RB Leipzig, and Rosenborg, and will fancy their chances to pick up a seventh straight win on Thursday.

Club Brugge have drawn their last two games in the Belgian First Division A and now sit eleven points behind Genk in second place, while Salzburg won their last game before the winter break and top the Austrian Bundesliga by an impressive fourteen points. The self belief inside the RB Salzburg camp is clear to see as they beat each of their opponents in the group stage of the Europa League home and away, and as it is well known that Celtic and RB Leipzig are very tough places to go and get a result.

We’re expecting another fine performance from the visitors on Thursday night, but this is their first game back from the winter break and that makes us think we’re in for a close game. Club Brugge have played four league games this year and that means they are bound to be sharp, but their results suggest they are yet to get back to their very best. The hosts have only managed one win since the start of the new year, suffering a defeat and a draw in their last two home games. RB Salzburg are yet to be beaten in league or cup this season, that’s thirty games in three different competitions without a single loss. Both teams have scored in each of RB Salzburg’s and Club Brugge’s last three games, which suggests we will see goals at both ends of the pitch on Thursday.

Wesley and Vanaken joint top score for the hosts with two goals each in Europe this season, while Dabour leads the way for Salzburg with six goals, closely followed by teammates Gulbrandsen and Minamino who have chipped in with four goals each. We’re confident that Salzburg will continue their fine winning run in the Europa League against Club Brugge on Thursday, but have backed a narrow final scoreline of 2-1. Salzburg might be lacking some match sharpness, and even if they get some tired legs in the second half, their confidence and self belief that accompanies a thirty game unbeaten run should help to paper over the cracks.
