At this stage of the season the fixture list can throw up plenty of entertaining fixtures, with clashes affecting the title race, the play-off picture or the battle to stay in the league. However, the flip side of that equation is that it can also throw up contests between two sides who have little left to play for, a fact which is apparent in Good Friday’s fixture between Colchester United and Grimsby Town.

The league table certainly suggests that Colchester United still have a shot at the top seven as they go into this contest just five points off the play-off places. However, their hopes of securing that top seven place are rapidly fading as they also enter into this match having lost five of their last six outings. A major reason behind their inability to secure the points is down to their inability to find the back of the net, with all five of those defeats being lost to nil.

Making the trip to the Colchester Community Stadium is a Grimsby Town side who may well have got the job done pretty early in securing their spot in the Football League for another season, but the Mariners are ending their season with a bit of a whimper. The visitors go into this match having failed to win in their previous nine outings, and although they managed a point in their last contest, they have had pretty similar troubles in front of goal to that experienced by their hosts.

Goals look like they will be at a premium in this contest, so backing at least one of the sides to fail to score looks to be the best chance of earning a return.
