Colchester vs Macclesfield Predictions

  • Colchester have drawn their last 4 matches.
  • Colchester have been undefeated in their last 12 matches.
  • Macclesfield have drawn 12 times this season.

A frustrating start to the year

A pretty strong set of results over December and the festive period left fans of Colchester United thinking that they had it all to look forward to in 2020. United were playing well, climbing the table and beginning to look like real contenders in the battle for promotion. However, since the turn of the year things have got a lot more frustrating.

While this weekend’s hosts are not getting beat, they are still having to settle for a share of the spoils and are not gaining ground on their promotion rivals. Colchester have drawn each of their last four league matches and given that they have now drawn 11 times overall this season, they know that this is an area which they need to work on if they are to close the gap on those above.

The resolute visitors may pose a problem

Macclesfield Town have plenty to cope with off the field as their well documented financial plight led them to part company with boss Sol Campbell at the start of the campaign, and with a low budget to recruit players, most thought that it would be a long and arduous season for the Silkmen. However, they have managed to show plenty of resolve in the face of that adversity and come into this match in high spirits.

If we are to focus on matters on the pitch, then the side have stayed pretty resolute and they come into this match having suffered just one defeat in their last eight league matches. Although the league table is not exactly pretty for them, they will be delighted to have a five point lead and two games in hand over the side in the solitary relegation spot. However, it is noticeable that, while they are not getting defeated, the reason that they are not pulling away from the relegation spot is that they are frequently sharing the spoils. The visitors have drawn 12 times this season, including six of their last eight league games.

Nothing between these sides

The league table may suggest that a home win is on the cards, and whilst they remain the favourites to claim the points, we think that they will be in for a difficult afternoon. The hosts are not exactly at their best at the moment and they have struggled to get over the line of late. With the visitors drawing so frequently at the moment and showing so much defensive capabilities, backing this one to end in a tie looks to be a wise move to make.

For our correct score tip, we do not foresee a high scoring affair. The hosts average 1.5 goals per game on home soil but that average has reduced to one per game over their last four league outings. Meanwhile, the visitors average just 0.85 goals per game on the road and feature highly in terms of the best defensive records in the league. With this in mind, backing a 1-1 draw looks to be a good bet.
