Colchester vs MK Dons Predictions

With the end of the season rapidly approaching and time running out on the 2018/19 season, there is now little time remaining for sides to accomplish the goals they set for themselves at the start of the campaign. This weekend we see a Colchester United side who are still fighting hard to obtain a spot in the end of season play-offs welcome automatic promotion hunting MK Dons.

Colchester United were well fancied to be in the hunt for promotion at the start of the season and, although they are currently still in the running to accomplish that aim, they will be disappointed they are not better placed as the end of the season draws nearer. The U’s have lost five of their last eight outings and truth be told, this is largely down to their inability to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

Following their demotion last season, the MK Dons are trying to bounce back into League One at the earliest opportunity and are looking pretty good to achieve that aim. Despite an excellent first half to the campaign, the Dons dropped off the pace a little in the new year but they are still fighting hard to ensure they claim one of the automatic promotion spots. The Dons successfully bounced back from back-to-back defeats on Good Friday when they saw off bottom of the table Notts County, but a disappointing 1-1 draw with an out of form Port Vale side on Easter Monday showed the inconsistencies which have plagued them of late.

Given the importance of this match for both of these sides, it seems unlikely either will approach the contest with a particularly defensive set up. The hosts may not be known for attacking football but they are currently outside of the play-off places and cannot afford to let this opportunity slip, a statement which is also true of MK Dons’ automatic promotion hopes. With this in mind, backing both teams to score seems to represent the best opportunity of a decent return.
