Colombia vs Argentina Predictions

  • Argentina are unbeaten in their last 12 internationals (W7, D5), but have drawn two of their last three.
  • After three games without a win, Colombia returned to form with an emphatic 0-3 success in Peru on Saturday night.
  • Four of the last eight meetings between the sides have finished all square.

Draw to satisfy both sides in Barranquilla

Argentina should extend their 12 game unbeaten sequence against Colombia in Barranquilla in the early hours of Wednesday morning, though we think Lionel Scaloni’s side may have to settle for a point at Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez.

La Albiceleste haven’t tasted defeat since losing 2-0 to Brazil in the 2019 Copa America (W7, D5) and already they look absolute certainties to reach the 2022 finals in Qatar. They sit second in the standings five qualifiers in with 11 points on the board, and their sheer consistency should guarantee them a top four spot well in advance of the qualifying campaign’s conclusion.

The Argentines are incredibly difficult to beat as their recent record implies, however, they aren’t a team accustomed to blowing opponents away and can at times lack a killer blow. Scaloni’s side have drawn two of their last three matches 1-1 against Paraguay and Chile, teams they were expected to overcome, and it could be a similar story here.

Colombia were woeful in defeats to Uruguay (0-3) and Ecuador (6-1) towards the end of 2020, but Tricolor returned to form with an emphatic 0-3 victory in Peru on Saturday.

With home advantage this Wednesday, Reinaldo Rueda’s charges could do enough to contain the visitors and we’re backing a draw with four of the last eight meetings also finishing level.

Argentina will prioritise leaving Barranquilla with at least a point to maintain their unbeaten record and strong position in the table, and with just three goals conceded in their five qualifiers to date, we could also see a goalless stalemate land at a decent price.
