Colon vs Deportivo Municipal Predictions

Wednesday’s Copa Sudamericana first round, second leg action sees Argentines Colon doing battle with Peruvians Deportivo Municipal. The hosts are expected to see through the 3-0 lead they established in the first leg with very few issues.

Travelling to Peru didn’t look the easiest of tasks for a Colon outfit that hasn’t really impressed domestically over the last year, but Los Sabaleros more than stepped up to the plate, recording a 3-0 win that now has the tie effectively over. The Argentines were ruthless in the final third during said game and made their superior quality over their opponents on paper more than show, something they’ll be hoping to repeat on Wednesday.

Indeed, with new manager Pablo Lavallen looking to build momentum and instil his style of playing, Colon certainly won’t be holding back in this second leg and treating it as a job already done. A 24th place finish in the Superliga Argentina has the fans quite annoyed with the team and as such, those taking to the pitch will be looking to put on a show for them.

Meanwhile, this was a tie Deportivo Municipal were always likely to lose and if they were to have any chance of causing an upset, they really needed to secure a positive result in the first leg. That’s something they’ve not done and they now travel to Argentina with only really pride to play for.

Indeed, there looks to be no hope of a Deportivo comeback and their only focus can only really be on avoiding being on the end of another heavy margin of defeat. Nonetheless, having lost 8 of their last 12 away games and conceded 10 goals during their last 4 trips, the side are clearly not a force on their travels and that leaves their prospects of achieving the aforementioned aim looking somewhat bleak.

Ultimately, whilst Colon may have struggled in the Superliga this season, they’re still by far a stronger side than Deportivo Municipal, who can only dream of the resources the hosts have at their disposal. Man for man, Colon are a more talented group than the visitors and that should translate into what we see on the pitch once again.

All things considered, backing a home win to nil looks a good way to play as far as the betting goes and is something we’re happy to do with maximum confidence. Deportivo Municipal have lost 3 of their last 4 away games without scoring and given that Colon have kept clean sheets in their last 2 home matches, a comfortable 2-0 margin of home victory could well be on the cards.
