Congo DR vs Ghana Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Congo DR are one of the surprise packages of this African Cup of Nations. They looked solid at the back in their opening game win over Morocco, with Junior Kabananga netting the only goal of the game as he began an impressive tournament.

They then secured a point against current champions Ivory Coast and confidently thrashed Togo in their final game to top the group. Kabananga has scored in all three of these group games to put him as the top scorer of the competition so far.

Ghana have been less consistently impressive, but their first half performance against Mali was one of the best halves we have seen this tournament. They won their opening two games 1-0 against Uganda and Mali, but the final match against Egypt threw up some serious concerns.

They went behind early on to a Mohamed Salah goal and then lost their captain Asamoah Gyan to injury. Their top scorer and star player is now a major doubt for this clash, whilst Baba Rahman has been ruled out for the rest of the season after his injury against Uganda.

Gyan will be a huge miss if he doesn’t make the grade, and that could tip the scales in Congo DR’s favour here. Ghana have had some issues with the pitches they have played on so far this tournament, and this will be the first time they get to play on an acceptable field.

That being said Congo DR have been the better team so far this tournament. Kabananga has been excellent so far and looks extremely high on confidence. Ghana may have a solid defence but at odds of 7/2 backing the tournament’s top scorer to find the net again looks a solid choice for our goalscorer predictions.

The bookies are heavily favouring Ghana here, but I see it as a much closer match. Congo DR have been one of the teams of the tournament so far and will be full of confidence after their 3-1 win over Togo, whilst Ghana could be without two key players and are coming into this game on the back of a defeat. Odds of 4/6 for a Congo DR Win or Draw Double Chance look excellent value considering Ghana have only won two of their last eight games. I’m going for a 2-1 win for Congo DR at 12/1 as well.
