Coritiba vs Sampaio Correa Predictions

Saturday’s Brazilian Serie B action sees Coritiba going toe to toe with Sampaio Correa. The hosts will be looking to prolong their excellent home record with a much needed 3 points.

Now at the halfway point of the Serie B season, one thing is very clear; Coritiba are not where they want to be and need to find swift improvement. After suffering a shock relegation from Serie A last season, Coxa were expected to make an immediate return with arguably the division’s strongest squad but currently standing 9th and two points shy of the top 4, things haven’t exactly gone to plan.

It’s Coritiba’s away performances that are really letting them down. Eduardo Baptista’s men have won just 1 of their 10 games contested on enemy territory so far and as such, it’s only their incredible home record that is keeping them within touching distance of the promotion spots. At the Estádio Couto Pereira, Coritiba remain unbeaten, winning 6 times from 9 matches in the process and extending that streak has to be the aim on Saturday.

With Sampaio Correa in town, that’s certainly something that looks probable. Coming into the season as a newly promoted side, the visitors were always expected to struggle and so it has proved, currently standing second bottom with just 16 points from 19 fixtures.

Having not won in 7 and lost their last 4, Paulo Roberto Santos’ troops really are in dire straits and a trip to face Coritiba is the last thing they need right now. Morale is running extremely low in visitors ranks and having conceded an average of 2.25 goals a game over said 4 defeats, those that take to the field are going to have to improve immensely in a defensive sense if they are to have any hope of securing a result.

Ultimately, if Coritiba cannot manage to secure victory in these types of matches then they can resign all hope of returning to the top flight. On paper they are a far stronger outfit than a Sampaio Correa side in terrible shape and they cannot afford to drop any points against them.

Whilst away from home, Coritiba can certainly be accused of not getting the job done often enough but with the backing of the crowd, Coritiba have met expectations more often than not this season and for that exact reason, we’re more than happy to back them to win with full confidence, with a 2-0 margin of victory on the cards.
