Coventry vs Exeter Predictions

With 48 league and play-off games already played this season, it all comes down to 90 minutes at Wembley to decide who wins the final spot in League One for next season, as last season’s beaten play-off finalists Exeter City welcome a Coventry City side who are hoping to bounce back to League One at the first attempt.

With so much at stake, and neither of these sides lacking in confidence, we think that they will both come out swinging and an entertaining match should be in the offing. With this in mind, we think that the best opportunity for a return in this fixture is found in backing both teams to find the back of the net.

Both teams scoring is something which has been pretty common for both of these sides in the final stages of the season, as nine of Coventry’s previous 10 outings has finished up this way and nine of Exeter’s previous 11 outings have also resulted in both sides finding the back of the net.

It is also something which has been fairly common when these two sides have faced off in the past and, although both of the regular season meetings between these two sides saw one of them fail to score, five of the previous eight meetings finished up this way.

Given that we expect both of these sides to go for it, goals look to be the order of the day. However, the fact that only one of the last 12 play-off finals in League Two have gone to extra time suggests that a winner will be decided within standard time.

The Grecians know all about failing to get the job done and we think the hurt of losing out last year will inspire them to the win this time around. With this in mind, we think combining an Exeter win with there to be over 2.5 goals scored looks to represent some excellent value for those of you looking for some bigger odds.

Key to deciding who wins promotion is the battle between the two hitmen. Marc McNulty has been directly involved in 18 goals in his last 15 league appearances for the Sky Blues (12 goals, six assists), including two goals and an assist in this season’s play-offs already. However, as Jayden Stockley has scored eight goals in his last 10 matches for Exeter in all competitions, we think backing the Exeter man to score anytime is the way to go.
