Cowdenbeath vs Rangers Predictions

Rangers have been on a pretty good run recently with just one loss in their last seven matches but fans have been disappointed in some results, the two draws against Hibernian and last week’s loss against Kilmarnock being real lowlights. They managed to get back on form at the weekend with a 3-0 win at Livingston but they are still to get on the same type of run they started the season with.

Rangers sit 2nd on goal difference but need to drastically improve their defence in order to offer a real title challenge. On loan defender Joe Worrall has disappointed many fans with some less than desirable performances recently, his hand in Kilmarnock’s first goal was particularly poor, but they looked much more secure with Croatian international Nikola Katic back in the side on Saturday. He had been absent, with Gerrard preferring a Worrall-Goldson centre-back partnership but the injury of the latter has opened the door again for the 22-year-old and he brought a clean sheet with him against Livingston (3-0).

This was Rangers’ first away clean sheet since November and a welcomed result for Rangers. They now have to switch their focus to the Scottish Cup though, where Gerrard will be hoping to take another step towards his first managerial trophy.

Cowdenbeath currently sit 7th in League Two so the occasion of Rangers coming to town will be a massive one for the town. Central Park was sold out for the original fixture and that is sure to be the case again in this rearranged match. The Miners come into this match in mixed form but will need to be on top of their game to progress to the next round.

The Blue Brazil have lost three and drawn two of the their last seven games with wins over Berwick (9th) and Elgin (6th) being slight highlights in this rather drab run of games. They have been okay for goals recently with nine in their last seven games but have kept just one clean sheet in this time, which leaves a lot to be desired. Cowdenbeath are sure to be right up for this match but the quality of Rangers should be too much for them here.

Steven Gerrard has only faced off against one Scottish team outside the top tier, which was Ayr United in the League Cup, they won 4-0 and never really looked in doubt of a convincing result. We’re predicting something similar to happen here with them so good in attack and after their 3-0 win away at the weekend, we’re backing the same to happen here. Rangers have a pretty solid away record with just three league defeats on the road and with Cowdenbeath not great at home, three wins in their last eight Central Park matches, we’re predicting a confident 4-0 victory for Rangers. We doubt Cowdenbeath will get on the score-sheet here as even free-scoring Livingston couldn’t dent the Rangers defence at the weekend, so we’re going to suggest a bet for not both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
