Crystal Palace to Win

Reason for tip

Crystal Palace have lost just one of their last nine home games and held Liverpool to a draw at Anfield last weekend.  Villa were poor in a season-opening 2-0 loss at Bournemouth and have four defeats in their last six trips, so a win for the Eagles looks likely in this Premier League clash.

Crystal Palace 2-0

Reason for tip

When Palace win at home, they usually manage to keep their opponents at bay and each of their last four home victories have been accompanied by clean sheets. Indeed, they showed real defensive resolve to hold out against Liverpool last week and limit them to just one goal, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them record a shut-out against Villa on Saturday. With that in mind, a 2-0 home win looks a reasonable option for our correct score bet as Villa have conceded at least twice in four of their last six away from home and exactly twice in three of those.

Wilfried Zaha To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Wilfried Zaha opened his account for the campaign at Anfield last time out and should head into Saturday’s game in confident mood. The Ivorian has scored in three of his last five outings at Selhurst Park and will be on penalty duties as well so he stands out as an option for an anytime effort.

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Predictions

  • Crystal Palace held Liverpool to a draw last weekend.
  • Palace have lost just one of their last nine home games in the Premier League.
  • Villa have lost four of their last six away games.
  • Wilfried Zaha has three goals in his last five games at Selhurst Park.

Palace seeking first victory

Old foes Patrick Vieira and Steven Gerrard clash in opposite dugouts on Saturday as Crystal Palace entertain Aston Villa.

Villa lost at Bournemouth in their season opener but bounced back with a 2-1 win over Everton last time out as Gerrard got one over on former England team-mate Frank Lampard but following that up with another three points looks a big ask.

Palace have just one point to show from their two games so far but they’ve had a tough start, and a point at title contenders Liverpool last time out suggests they can get a result on Saturday.

Eagles ready to start flying

Palace have been handed a tough start to the season and after this clash with Villa they travel to Manchester City in the next round of league games. Saturday’s home assignment does look like a good opportunity for them to claim a first win though, and they are a decent price to take all three points on Saturday.

Villa were poor at Bournemouth in their only trip so far this season. Gerrard’s men had a solid away record last season but they still lost 11 of their 19 trips and the Villans have a fairly poor record in London, losing five of their six trips to the capital last season.

Villa did win at Selhurst Park in the corresponding fixture last term, but that was one of Gerrard’s first games in charge when there was a bit of a feel good factor after his arrival and that may have played a part in that success. Their recent away record isn’t particularly impressive and the loss at Bournemouth was their fourth defeat in their last six trips, while Palace’s defeat to the Gunners ended an eight-game unbeaten run at home so at a big price a win for Vieira’s men looks a good option for our main bet.

Clean sheet on the cards for hosts

When Palace win at home, they usually manage to keep their opponents at bay and each of their last four home victories have been accompanied by clean sheets. Indeed, they showed real defensive resolve to hold out against Liverpool last week and limit them to just one goal, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them record a shut-out against Villa on Saturday.

With that in mind, a 2-0 home win looks a reasonable option for our correct score bet as Villa have conceded at least twice in four of their last six away from home and exactly twice in three of those.
