Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Predictions

  • Newcastle are unbeaten in 14 Premier League games
  • Newcastle have kept clean sheets in eight of their last ten league games
  • Crystal Palace have lost four of their last six league games without scoring
  • Newcastle have kept clean sheets in their last three meetings with Palace

Quick turnaround won’t help Palace’s cause

Newcastle are showing no signs of relenting in their pursuit of a top-four finish in the Premier League and, for all their attacking quality, their success this season has largely been inspired by a disciplined defence.

The Magpies have lost only one of their opening 19 games and are within nine points of runaway league leaders Arsenal.

A title push looks beyond Eddie Howe’s men but they do have a five-point buffer on fifth-placed Tottenham so, at the halfway stage, Champions League qualification is well within their grasp.

And Newcastle could enjoy more success at Crystal Palace, who are currently on a tricky run of fixtures.

This match for Palace comes just three days on from Thursday’s 1-1 draw with a rejuvenated Manchester United, while they had lost their two Premier League games prior to that clash with the Red Devils against Tottenham and Chelsea.

Well-organised Magpies can frustrate Palace

Newcastle boast the best defence in the Premier League this season, with only 11 goals conceded in 19 games, while their only defeat this term came against Liverpool at Anfield at the end of August.

Since then the Magpies have gone 14 games unbeaten and they have kept nine clean sheets in that period, taking the total tally for shot-stopper Nick Pope in the Premier League to 11.

That doesn’t bode well for Palace, who failed to score in four league games prior to the recent showdown with Manchester United.

The Eagles did claim a point in a goalless draw at St James’ Park in September but that is one of eight Premier League games in which they have fired a blank this season and the division’s meanest defence could frustrate them once more.

Newcastle have won four of their last six away league fixtures and the two in which they didn’t oblige they claimed respectable goalless draws at Arsenal and Manchester United.

The visitors have had three days extra preparation time, too, and the fresher legs should only ensure they come out on top.

Given Newcastle’s defensive steel, correct-score punters should take the Magpies to grind out a narrow 1-0 victory, which would be their fifth one-goal win of the Premier League campaign.
