Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
- Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six Premier League away matches
- Crystal Palace have scored just two goals in their last five league games
- Five of the Eagles’ last six home league matches have featured fewer than three goals
High-flying Tottenham can earn another London victory
Tottenham have been transformed in their nine Premier League games under Ange Postecoglou’s stewardship and they can take a five-point lead at the top of the table with a victory at Crystal Palace on Friday.
However, they could have to battle for three points, as they did in another London derby against Fulham on Monday, especially as the Eagles are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a 4-0 thumping at Newcastle.
Spurs have been excellent going forward and England midfielder James Maddison has provided them with a creative edge that was lacking last season under Postecoglou’s predecessor Antonio Conte.
Heung-Min Son has stepped into the breach following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich, but there is still a feeling they have to scrap for points, particularly when the manager makes changes in the later stages of matches.
They looked shakier late on in the 2-0 victory over the Cottagers and that could give Palace hope, but the Eagles’ lack of goals in recent matches is a concern, so under 2.5 goals looks a sensible bet.
Chances could be at a premium
Five of Crystal Palace’s last six home league games have featured fewer than three goals and while Tottenham dominated in spells and played some neat football against Fulham, they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.
In fact, both of their goals on Monday came from mistakes from Marco Silva’s side and they could find chances hard to come by again when they face a team who have had goalless draws against Fulham and Nottingham forest in their last two home matches.
With talent such as Maddison and Son to call upon, Spurs can snap up openings if they are presented with them but it seems unlikely that they will run away with things, so those who enjoy a correct-score bet should be pointed in the direction of a 2-0 away win.
Son is the main man for Spurs
New Spurs captain Heung-Min Son has relished the opportunity to play in a central role and only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has scored more Premier League goals than the South Korean this season.
His opener against Fulham was his seventh goal in his last six Premier League appearances and five of those have come in away matches as he notched a hat-trick in the 5-2 win at Burnley and both goals in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal, one of only two league games that Spurs have not won this term.
Maddison’s signing has given Tottenham a link between the midfield and lone forward that was not fully utilised before Postecoglou joined the club from Celtic and Son can be expected to maintain his strong run of form with a goal at Selhurst Park.
