De Graafschap vs Groningen Predictions

De Graafschap and Groningen both lost in the league last weekend, but that wont be the case on Saturday when the pair lock horns in the Eredivisie. De Graafschap made a winning return in the Eredivisie on the opening day with a surprise 2-0 victory at home against Feyenoord, while Groningen were soundly beaten 5-1 away at Vitesse.

De Graafschap gave it their best shot against Breda last weekend, but ended up on the end of a 3-0 defeat despite the stats implying that the game was much closely than the final scoreline suggests. It wasn’t until two minutes before the break that Breda took the lead through te Vrede, with a goal that knocked De Graafschap’s belief in the second half.

Just five minutes after the restart Mets made it 2-0 and ended any hopes of a De Graafschap comeback, and in the sixty-fifth minute Nijholt confirmed the three points for Breda with the hosts third goal of the game.

De Graafschap had were edged out in the stats department with 47% of the possession and three shots on target to the hosts four, but one wonders how they would have done in the second half if they hadn’t conceded that goal just minutes before the interval.

Saturday’s hosts do at least have that victory over Feyenoord to look back on in preparation of Groningen’s arrival, while the visitors have lost both of their games and already look set for another tough season at the wrong end of the Eredivisie table.

Groningen had a lot more shots against Willem II last weekend, but twelve of those fifteen attempts were off target and the visitors edged the possession stats with 54& to 46%. The hosts were hoping to make amends for their 5-1 humiliation at Vitesse on the opening day, but ended up losing against another of this season predicted strugglers Willem II.

The only goal of the game arrived in the thirty-third minute from former Oxford United and Barnsley midfielder Crowley after good work from Akkaynak. Groningen tried to get back on level terms, but were mostly limited to long range efforts that rarely troubled Wellenreuther in the Willem II goal.

We’re confident that newly promoted De Graafschap will pick up at least a draw against struggling Groningen this weekend and have backed the hosts with a double chance bet. Groningen have started this season with two defeats, six goals conceded and one scored, and sit bottom of the Eredivisie table. De Graafschap won their opening game of the season at home against Feyenoord 2-0, and the only reason we gone with a double chance bet instead of a win is because Groningen haven’t lost against De Graafschap in their last ten meetings. In terms of a final score we’re going for a narrow 1-0 win for the home side, but wouldn’t be surprised if this game ended in a draw.
