Defensa Y Justicia vs Argentinos Juniors Predictions

Monday’s Superliga Argentina action sees Defensa y Justicia doing battle with Argentinos Juniors. The hosts are expected to win the match with relative comfort and will be looking to do exactly that.

Still unbeaten after 17 league matches, of which they’ve won 11, tiny Defensa are not running out of steam and are now a firm candidate for the Superliga title. El Halcón have little financial muscle, no significant history and a tiny ground, but for years they’ve punched above their weight thanks to excellent management from top to bottom and today they’re undoubtedly one of Argentina’s strongest sides.

Defensa did narrowly lose 1-0 away to Botafogo in a first round, first leg Copa Sudamericana clash in midweek, but said defeat will have done little to dampen spirits, with the side fully focused on continuing league momentum. Having now won 4 league matches on the bounce, the latter two of which by last minute goals, there’s a feeling that nothing can stop this Defensa team at the moment and those taking to the pitch will be desperate to make that the case once again on Monday.

Meanwhile, Argentinos have been dropping like a stone on the average points table thanks to their dismal campaign and unless things improve swiftly, El Bicho will be playing B Nacional football next season. Rock bottom with 11 points from 17 games, the visitors have been by far the league’s weakest outfit this campaign and it’s hard to see them improving any time soon.

Having scored a dismal total of just 5 goals, it’s clear where Argentinos’ problems lie and their attack just doesn’t have enough of a goal threat about it. That was more than apparent last weekend, when they faced second bottom Belgrano at home and still drew 0-0, despite the Cordobes outfit having played the vast majority of the game with 10 men.

Ultimately, this fixture is as easy as they come to call and it’d be a massive surprise if Argentinos were to avoid defeat. Man for man, Defensa are by far a stronger side than the visitors and there’s a reason why 28 points currently separate the two in the Superliga standings.

Defensa should be winning this game very comfortably and backing the home win in combination with it being to nil looks an excellent way to play. Defensa have won their last 4 league games whilst conceding just once and with Argentinos so shot-shy, they aren’t likely to give the hosts too much to think about and we fancy Defensa to run out 2-0 winners.
